With the development of thundercloud, the lower part of the thundercloud is comprised of a layer of negative charge, which can reach 7-15KA. As a result, an electric field is established between the cloud and ground. The controllable discharge lightning rod can constantly absorb and store a large quantity of positive charge. Close to saturation, it can release positive charge from the tip to balance out the negative charge brought by thundercloud so as to lower the intensity of negative charge. Weakening discharge current and induce voltage follows lower-down lightning strike, thus it protects the structure.
